Maharashtra sets up task force to rescue homeless kids

Altogether 36,154 kids in Mumbai live on the city streets, Minister of State for women and children Fauzia Khan said today. 

This was the finding of a study undertaken by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Acton Aid India organisation, the minister said, replying to a query by Shiv Sena MLC Deepak Sawant and others. 

It was also found that 905 kids live in train compartments, the minister said. 

A special task force has been set up under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to bring these children into the social mainstream, she said.
