LOP: What the rulebook says
June 02, 2014
Why no Leader of Opposition? The Congress' strength of 44 members in the Lok Sabha does not entitle it for the post of the Leader of Opposition as a minimum number of 54 MPs -- which is 10 per cent of the House strength - is required for the largest opposition party to be entitled for the post. This rule was framed by the first Lok Sabha Speaker, GV Mavalankar, a report in The Economic Times says.
