The Supreme Court has also refused to stay the Centre's decision to appoint Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag as next Army Chief. The appointment of the next army chief had got mired in a controversy as the BJP, which was in the opposition in May, was strictly opposing it, questioning the "hurry" and insisting that the matter be left to the next government as there is still time left.

However, since the NDA government came to power, it has stood by the appointment.
