Syrian forces kill dozens in ambush
February 27, 2014
Dozens of rebels were ambushed and killed by Syrian government forces Wednesday in a suburb of Damascus, as the armed opposition tries to squeeze the capital and press the regime to accept a political solution to the three-year war.

There were conflicting reports over the identity of the those killed. The government claimed the casualties were all rebels, while the armed opposition claimed the dead included fighters but were mostly civilians trying to escape a seven-month government siege in Eastern Ghouta, where starvation has ensued
