Spit-test can predict risk of depression in teen boys

Cambridge scientists have identified the first biomarker for clinical depression after they found that high levels of stress hormone in spit can indicate a serious risk of developing psychiatric disorders in teen boys.

Teenage boys with symptoms of depression and raised levels of the stress hormone cortisol are up to 14 times more likely to develop major depression than those without these traits, researchers found.
