After Telangana, GJM rakes up Gorkhaland demand
February 18, 2014
With the passage of the Telangana Bill in the Lok Sabha today, the GJM, demanding Gorkhaland, today urged the Center to take an unilateral decision to create a separate state, despite objections from West Bengal.

"We would now request the Centre to similarly consider the just and fair demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland, which is among the oldest in the country," Gorkha Janmukti Morcha supremo Bimal Gurung said in a Facebook post.

"Today's passage of the Telengana Bill makes it clear that state consent is not necessary for its bifurcation, a fact which we have been reiterating for a long time," he said.
