The logic of Chinese encroachment

After India goes soft on the Chinese incursion and Li  Keqiang says goodbye without saying sorry, here's an assessment of the standoff at Daulat Beg Oldie. 

Legally speaking China has no business to be in areas beyond its borders. Its border ends at Xinjiang, which was incorporated into the Chinese empire when it was conquered by the Mongol leader Genghis Khan in the 13th century. Known to the Chinese as Xiyu ("Western Regions') for centuries, the area became Xinjiang ("New Borders') upon its annexation under the Qing (Manchu) dynasty in the 18th century.
