The Bharatiya Janata Party's gamble on Modi is based on the calculation that he will galvanize the BJP's core vote (bigots), and yet attract swing voters who aren't particularly stirred by the prospect of a Ram temple or excited by the sangh parivar's favoured sport and raison d'etre, minority baiting.
