Ganesh Nadar says that the collector of Dharmapuri is believed to have asked Ilavarasan's wife Divya if she wanted to attend his funeral. While Divya remained non-committal, Ilavarasan's mother says Divya has to attend the funeral or "only then will my son's soul rest in peace."
