Indian-origin rapist's case sets precedent in UK
December 07, 2013
An Indian-origin serial rapist, sentenced to life imprisonment by a British court, has set a legal precedent in the United Kingdom regarding the retrial of cases where the accused had previously been acquitted.

Harbinder Khatkar was found guilty of 18 offences, including five rapes, by the Derby Crown Court on Friday. The judge ordered that he should serve at least 14 years in prison before he can be considered for parole.

The 37-year-old had been cleared of four offences last year but was tried again after being arrested for new attacks.
