Relief for Modi? Gujarat Lokayukta resigns

Gujarat Lokayukta Justice R A Mehta has resigned from his post, citing health reasons.

Justice Mehta tendered his resignation from the position by sending a mail to Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal.

It may be recalled that the state government, led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, had objected strongly to Justice Mehta's appointment.

The state government's plea against the appointment had gone all the way to the Supreme Court, which had upheld it.
