So, why the Cabinet reshuffle?
October 28, 2012
If you've just joined us, a reshuffle of the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
will take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at 11.30 am. After the reshuffle, Dr Singh
leaves for Himachal Pradesh to address a poll rally.
Why reshuffle? The reshuffle has been necessitated with six
ministers of the Trinamool Congress quitting the United Progressive
Alliance (UPA) and the government last month. Ministers belonging to the
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party (DMK) of Tamil Nadu had also left the
cabinet, though the party continues to offer outside support to the UPA
alliance.
With President Pranab Mukherjee accepting the resignations of seven
Cabinet Ministers late on Saturday evening, the reshuffle is expected to
see the induction of at least twelve ministers, most of them being
younger in age.
There will be a conscious effort to ensure that cabinet has a younger
profile.
