War escalates as Syria bombs Turkey

NATO has condemned Syrian shelling of a border village that left five Turkish people dead, and sparked Ankara to order retaliatory fire.

The meeting of the 28 member states was convened at NATO headquarters in Brussels as the alliance strongly condemned the Syrian action.Turkey shelled Syria in retaliation for what it termed an attack "too far.''

"Our armed forces in the border region immediately retaliated against this heinous attack... by shelling targets spotted by radar,'' Turkey's prime minister's office said in a statement earlier.
