Mumbai shuts down for Bal Thackeray
November 17, 2012
Prasanna D Zore reports from Malad: Minutes after the death of Bal Thackeray was announced, Mumbai voluntarily shut down.

Shops downed shutters across the city. Only chemists, among essential services, remained opened. Taxis and rickshaws went off the roads.

However, BEST buses are plying and trains are running as per schedules.

There has been heavy police bandobast as stations and important junctions.

Call centres in suburban Malad and Goregaon have also shut down.
