Widespread panic as Bali quake injures over 50
October 13, 2011

A powerful earthquake today jolted Indonesia's popular resort island of Bali, causing widespread panic and injuring at least 50 people, many with broken bones and head wounds, says an AP report.

The walls and ceilings of some temples and at least one school along the coast crumbled, and witnesses told local radio and television stations the roofs of homes collapsed.

The US Geological Survey said the 6.0-magnitude quake was centered 100 kilometers southwest of the island. It hit 60 kilometers beneath the ocean floor.
